It is impossible to contemplate this sculpture dating from the Ancient Cyclades (3rd Century BC, Island of Keros) without thinking of the works of Picasso or Brancusi, both of whom were inspired by these strikingly pure faces. This work by an unknown sculptor is characterised by its nearly oval shape only disrupted by the emergence of a nose. The perfection of form is remarkable. It is Modern Abstract Art before its time!
